KUALA LUMPUR: The Ampang Sessions Court here today allowed an application for bail by a night club bouncer who claimed trial to the attempted murder of Kepong Umno Youth chief Datuk Norizan Ali.

Prior to this, Mohd Haswan Hashim was detained at the Sungai Buloh Prison.

In allowing the application, judge Manira Mohd Nor allowed bail of RM10,000 in one surety.

She also gave additional conditions for Mohd Haswan to report himself at the nearest police station once a month and to not disturb the victim.

Lawyer Muhammad Zarif Othman, representing  Mohd Haswan, requested that his client be allowed bail on the grounds that his hand was seriously injured and required treatment.

The court set Dec 27 for pre-trial conference.

On Nov 8 when the case was brought to the court for the first time, the prosecution did not offer bail on the grounds that the alleged offence was serious, that it involved a dangerous weapon and had caused the victim to be in trauma.

Mohd Haswan, 22, together with another person who had pleaded guilty, are jointly charged with attacking Norizan, 41, with a parang, resulting in injuries to his abdomen, body and hand.

The offence was allegedly committed at Jalan Cahaya 2, Ampang, at 2.30am on Sept 24 this year.

Mohd Azril Ab Shukor, 28, who pleaded guilty to the charge was sentenced to six years’ jail.

Prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nadiah Malek Fauzie.– BERNAMA
