Miri sending strong contingent for Wushu meet

READY FOR THE CHALLENGE: The 13 participants that will be representing Miri in the upcoming Wushu (Dance Flying) championship in Kuala Lumpur from Dec 13-14, posing for a photo call.

MIRI: A total of 13 participants from Miri Wushu Association (MWA) will be taking part in the upcoming Wushu (Dance Flying) championship in Kuala Lumpur from Dec 13-14.

They are Phang Yii Fei of Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS), Alvin Hiu Jiu Sheng (RRSS), Alexander Liew Juinn Kai (RRSS), Phang Yii Gin (RRSS), Tiong Ying Shing of SMK Chuang Hua Miri (SMKCH), John Yu Zixiang (SMKCH), Jayson Yeong Shin Jun of SJK Chuang Hua Pujut Miri (SJKCHP), Le Ching Hing (SJKCHP), Morgan Alfonso Chai (RRSS), Chan Hou Tong (RRSS), Law Yee Xuan of SJK Chung Hua Krokop Miri, Farid Adam of SJK Jalan Bintang, Chieng Jing Kiong of SJK Chung Hua Miri.

According to MWA chief coach, Tiong Ching Chiong, the Miri contingent will take part in the individual, team and sparring categories.

“Although we will be participating in three main categories, however, we will concentrate more on the international compulsory wushu and freestyle event which is under the individual category,” Tiong told The Borneo Post yesterday.

According to Tiong, the tournament will be an exciting one as participants will have the opportunity to add other actions in the team category such as sparring, dancing and others.

“We will do our best in the tournament,” Tiong added.

Other participants that will be joining the tournament are from Penang, Melaka, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Kedah.

The tournament is organised by Kuala Lumpur Wushu Association and Rong Seng Wushu Academy.
