SAPP, Star to meet on seats

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) will further discuss with State Reform Party (Star) several matters, including seat allocation in their intention to collaborate against Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general election.

President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee in revealing this yesterday, said the two parties were expected to meet in two to three weeks’ time to fine tune a few collaborative ideas.

“At this stage, I don’t think we want to close the door for discussion with any parties,” he said to reporters when asked about the outcome of seat negotiations between SAPP and fellow oppositions in the state.

As for Pakatan Rakyat component parties, Yong said discussions were progressing very well with everyone eagerly working towards a ‘sharing of burden’ concept.

He said talks were also directed towards ensuring autonomy for Sabah by giving local-based parties the priority to contest state seats.

“There has been more positive energy, and confidence has been building up among the parties involved, especially in the last few months,” he said.

To a question, Yong said today (yesterday) would be the last day for the BN government to dissolve the Cabinet if it wanted to have the elections ahead of Christmas.

However, he said it was more likely for Najib’s administration to call for the polls in March, although end of January could also be a possible option.

As to where he would be contesting in the coming election, Yong said: “The helicopter has no landing pad yet”.
