Burger vendor jailed for rudeness at police station

KOTA KINABALU: A local burger seller was jailed three days and fined RM300, in default, three days’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for uttering rude words and challenging the police to arrest him.

Zazlieandy Zainuddin, 25, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Herlina Muse to a charge framed under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967 which carries a maximum fine of RM500 or a jail term.

The undefended accused was apprehended at the counter of Putatan police station on Oct 30 while he was making a police report.

At that time, the police had asked him to calm down but the accused, who was drunk at the time, challenged the police to arrest him.

In a separate case yesterday, an unemployed local man was charged in the same court for impersonating as a policeman to a 20-year-old man.

Basri Shaifuddin, 41, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of impersonating a public servant had taken away the man’s laptop, cellphone and RM100 in cash in front of a restaurant in Inanam at 6.20 pm on Oct 21.

The charge under Section 170 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail of two years or a fine or both, upon conviction.

Herlina have set Dec 20 for the case management and allowed the release of the accused on bail of RM3,000 with three local sureties.

In an unrelated case, local Fauziah Bakar, 33, was sentenced to two months’ jail for stealing cosmetic products worth RM1,663.10.

She reportedly committed the offence at a shop at the Wawasan Plaza here on Nov 25.

Fauziah admitted to the charge framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail of 10 years and be liable to a fine, upon conviction.
