MASwings considering KK-Clark route

KOTA KINABALU: MASwings chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Captain Mohd Nawawi Awang said MASwings has made BIMP-EAGA as a starting-point to become the most reputable and preferred airline in East Asia, and the possibility was there to venture into other regions.

“We are looking at the possibility to fly to Clark, but we must study why the other airline pulled out its Kota Kinabalu-Clark route.

“If we start flying to Clark, we would begin with scheduled flights, lease from MAS or Firefly to ensure we have the capability of flying to that region,” added Nawawi to reporters, after witnessing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Anthony Tours and Travel Agency Sdn. Bhd. Brunei and Popular Express Travel (Sabah) to develop Borneo holidays and itineraries, incorporating Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak.

He was asked to comment whether MASwings would take the opportunity to expand its route from Kota Kinabalu to Clark after AirAsia announced to withdraw its seven-time weekly flights to that route, effective 1 February 2013, for commercial reasons.
