KUCHING: Despite still aggravating a rupture in his Achilles tendon, state football player Ashri Chuchu still wants to fight for his place in the national team.

According to the Lawas native, playing for his country means everything to him. Ashri wants another call-up and is working hard to earn it.

Never giving up on his quest, he also revealed that national coach Ong Kim Swee is still constantly in contact with him.

Ashri added that Ong still has hopes for him to recover fast from his injury.

Ashri ruptured his Achilles tendon during the encounter between Sarawak and T-team last July in which Sarawak lost 0-1.

He underwent surgery at the Sarawak General Hospital last October.

Ashri is however expected to be up and running by March next year.

“I’m glad that the surgery went well. Now all I need to do is to be patient during my recovery process,” he added.

With the Premier League starting next month, he also revealed that he is deeply disappointed that he will not be able to help his team mates during the early stages of the league next year.

Commenting on the new recruits to the Crocs line up, Ashri is full of praises of them.

He added the new signing most particularly Croatian import Ivan Babic and former Harimau Muda player Ahmad Aminuddin Shaharuddin will definitely add more dimension to the team.

“The new players are quality signings. I can’t wait to play alongside them once I fully recover,” he said.

Apart from Babic and Ahmad Aminuddin, Ashri is also glad that former captain and playmaker Joseph Kalang Tie is back with the Crocs.

His return will definitely be celebrated by Sarawak fans and team mates as well.

He continued that with a team combining youth and experience, he is optimistically that Sarawak can climb back to the country’s top tier football in 2014.
