SPDP organises extreme sports event for youths

KUCHING: Extreme sports enthusiasts are in for a special treat as the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) together with the Samarahan Skate Zone has lined-up a host of the activities this Dec 15 at Taman Samar Indah, Kota Samarahan.

The main highlight of the day is a skateboard competition, followed by a BMX Bicycle stunt riding contest.

Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) Putera Exco-member Aston Bobby Andy announced yesterday that the party will do all they can to help in the development of extreme sports here in the state.

Aston also pointed out that it is always in the party’s intention to support healthy and positive activities among the youth, especially in Sarawak.

According to Ramesh Rantau of Samarahan Skate Zone, extreme sports have a huge following in the state especially the sports sub-categories like BMX Bicycle stunt riding and skateboarding.

“Extreme sport is very interesting as it tests the precision and (physical and mental) durability of the player at the same time. In extreme sport contest, the athletes are actually challenging themselves,” he said.

He too revealed that the competition is open to all skateboard and BMX enthusiasts. All they need to do is go the competition venue, bring the necessary equipment and register themselves. He also hopes that more than 100 participants will register for the competition.

“My message to all extreme sports enthusiast is to come and support this event. Let us work together and help in the development of extreme sports,” said Ramesh.

Ramesh revealed that the event is supported by SPDP president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom who is also state Senior Minister and Minister of Social Development.

“In our effort to push for the sports to develop further, one of the moves that we make is to contact our local leaders for help and assistance. I am glad that someone out there cared and on behalf of Samarahan Skate Zone, I thank Tan Sri William Mawan and SPDP for their support,” Ramesh added.
