KUALA LUMPUR: Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam said Malaysia’s ties with the foreign countries whose citizens were rescued last Saturday from a maid agency which allegedly confined them has not been jeorpadised.

He said the related countries, Indonesia, the Philippines and Cambodia, were informed that the incident was believed to have been masterminded by a group and investigations were in progress.

“The investigations will be completed soon and we hope the Home Ministry and police will take stern action against the group,” he told reporters after launching the ‘Ops Jelas’ book organised by the MIC Youth, here yesterday.

Last Monday, the Selangor Immigration Department, Port Klang branch, rescued 105 foreign women from a four-storey building of a maid agency in Bandar Baru Klang.

Subramaniam also emphasised that the rescue proved that the Malaysian government had proper systems and stern laws to protect foreign workers, including the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

Regarding the ‘Ops Jelas’ book, Subramaniam said it contained complete information on all the Barisan Nasional transformation programmes for the Indian community.

The books, in Bahasa Malaysia and Tamil, will be distributed by the MIC Youth to dispel the opposition’s political lies, he added.

Also present at the event was MIC Youth chief T Mohan.

Touching on the MIC General Assembly tomorrow, Subramaniam who is also the party’s deputy president said the gathering will focus on strengthening MIC’s machinery for the upcoming 13th General Election. — Bernama
