KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today fixed two days, beginning April 10 next year, to hear a RM50 million defamation suit filed by former Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin against Utusan Melayu (M) Berhad.

Justice Datin Zabariah Mohd Yusof set the date in chambers when the case came up for mention in the presence of lawyers Mohd Fitri Asmuni and Zamri Ibrahim, representing Mohammad Nizar, and Nor Atasha Sakinah Juhaidi Yean, for Utusan.

Mohammad Nizar filed the suit on July 10 concerning his comments on the WWW 1 vehicle number plate which was bid for RM520,000.

In the statement of claim, Mohammad Nizar stated that on May 28 he issued a statement on the vehicle number plate through his Twitter account and he claimed that on May 31, Utusan Melayu had published an article on page 11 of the Utusan Malaysia newspaper on the matter.

Mohammad Nizar, who is Pasir Panjang assemblyman, said that the statements, among others, meant that he was a traitor to the Malay rulers, especially the Sultan of Johor, a politician who was anti-royalty and who instigated the people to hate the Sultan of Johor.– BERNAMA
