TAWAU: A 40-year-old local man was sentenced to five months’ jail by the magistrate’s court here yesterday for possession of stolen properties.

Magistrate Edward Paul meted out the sentence on Mohd Fahmie Dahlan after he pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years, or with a fine, or both.

Edward ordered the sentence to run from the date of arrest.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Joan Lee told the court that the accused was detained on Nov 21 at 7.10pm at a hut in Kampung Tanjung Batu Darat, Lorong Garundang, North Road.

He was found in possession of a Crocodile brand wristwatch and a piggy bank containing about RM500 which belonged to one Asnah Kassim.

The victim and her family had reportedly left for Kota Kinabalu on Nov 10 and left their house at Taman Ria 6 unattended.

On their return on Nov 18 at 4.53pm, they found the house broken into through the kitchen window and the two items missing.
