Local jailed for misappropriating Filipina’s laptop, wearing police uniform

KOTA KINABALU: An unemployed local man was yesterday jailed for a total of 11 months by the Magistrate’s Court here for misappropriating a Filipina’s laptop and wearing Royal Police Malaysia uniform without authorization.

Jarimal Jaumal, 22, who pleaded guilty before magistrate Herlina Muse to both charges yesterday, was sentenced to eight months’ jail for misappropriating the laptop of the girl, an IMM13 holder, at an apartment in Penampang on November 8 this year.

He was convicted under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to five years or with a fine and whipping.

For wearing the police uniform sometime this month, an offence under Section 171 of the Penal Code, he was given the maximum three months’ jail.

He was however ordered to serve the sentences concurrently.

It was learnt that the accused had made the uniform while befriending the victim.

Throughout their relationship he had borrowed the victim’s cellphone, cash and the laptop while clad in police attire.

Police investigation revealed that the laptop was pawned for RM300.

Meanwhile, in the Sessions Court here yesterday, four locals were each fined RM2,500, in default, three months’ jail for selling unregistered products.

Hii Hua King, 53, Ling Neng Yiing, 52, and Patrick Hii Siang Hock, 25, pleaded guilty to a charge of selling 403 bottles of Balsem Otot Geliga and five bottles of Minyak Kayu Putih Cajuput Oil at a premises in Kampung Tomboro, Meruntum on April 12 this year.

Indang Suzianti Safari, 32, admitted to selling 38 bottles of BL Cream, five maxi peel 4% solution, 11 bottles of antiseptic Tincture of Benzalkonium Chloride 0.125% at a shop in Pitas on Aug 10 this year.

The accused were convicted under 12 (1) of the Drugs Selling Act 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000.

Pharmacy Deparment officer Murni Ibrahim prosecuted the case.
