KUCHING: The police have seized more than 100,000 nospan (dextromethophan) pills since the ban on the drug in Sept 1 last year by the Ministry of Health’s Drug Control Division.

According to Kuching district police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad, 26 suspects comprising 25 males and a female were arrested between Nov and Dec 10, this year alone.

“During the same period, we also seized 3,502 nospan pills,” he told a press conference at the district police headquarters here yesterday. Also present were Kuching deputy police chief Pauzi Bujang and senior investigating officer ASP Naazron Abdul Yusof.

Nospan, also known as ‘poor man’s recreational drug’ can cause confusion, doubled vision, slurred speech, increased heartbeat, and nausea, among others, when abused.

Roslan also said that from Jan 2007 till Dec 10, this year the police had seized 125,771 nospan pills.
