KUCHING: The parents of the bank manager who was murdered early this year in Sibu yesterday applied to court for the custody of his five-year-old son.

The High Court here ordered the applicants to make a formal application yesterday.

Defence Counsel Earnest Chua who represented the parents had made an oral application before Justice Datuk Yew Jen Kie.

The parents wanted immediate full guardianship, custody, care and control of the child, according to Chua. The boy is currently under the custody of his maternal grandparents who are respondents in the child custody case.

In the preliminary objection, the respondents’ lawyers consisting of Roger Chin, Anthony Tai and Lim Heng Choo told the court the application made by the applicants should be made through writ of summons instead of originating summons.

The court yesterday fixed Jan 11 to decide on the matter.

The late Stephen Wong, 31, was found dead at his house in Hulu Sungai Merah around 1.30am on June 14 this year.

Wong was slashed on the throat and stabbed several times.

His wife Ling Hang Tsyr, 31, had been tentatively charged for her alleged involvement in the murder together with two others.

The murder case is being heard in Sibu High Court.
