KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Land Transport Commission (SPAD) has introduced the use of technology using the MyTeksi and Taxi Monger applications to enhance efficiency of taxi drivers, the Dewan Negara was told yesterday.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Ahmad Maslan, said the MyTeksi and Taxi Monger applications were introduced to make it easier for the public to make bookings.

MyTeksi and Taxi Monger are smartphone applications, hence enabling the public to make taxi bookings through their smartphones, he said in response to question from Senator Datuk Pau Chiong Ung.

Pau wanted to know efforts being made by SPAD to improve the image of taxi drivers in the city.

Ahmad said the two applications would also enable taxi drivers to locate passengers nearest to their locations, as well as the intended destinations with ease.

He said SPAD would also intensify enforcement against errant taxi drivers to ensure they abide by all regulations, adding that a consumers’ complaint channel was launched last month to receive complaints on taxi drivers from the public.

There are four methods available for the public to lodge their complaints on taxi drivers, namely by using the hotline at 1-800-88-SPAD (7723), email at [email protected], Twitter at @aduanTwitter and www.spad.gov.my.

To a supplementary question from Pau, Ahmad said SPAD would make it compulsory for taxi drivers to attend certain courses before they could be issued with the licence.

SPAD would also launch an academy next year to train taxi and bus drivers, he added. — Bernama
