GEORGE TOWN: About 100 Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) postgraduate students gathered to indicate their solidarity for the Gaza struggle, here on Monday night.

Most of them were international students from Iraq, Pakistan, Egypt, China, Vietnam, Palestine and Nigeria.

They also held a candle vigil, read poetry, prayed and shared their thoughts about freedom with each other within the two-hour programme.

The President of Post-Graduate Student Association, M Imran Sarwar said everyone was supposed to do something for the Palestinians even if the action was small because the issue was all about humanity rather than religious matters.

“The simple step creates awareness among our friends. It shows we care about them, might be useful to them in future and we should keep it up” he told reporters.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian student, Mustafa Al-Tayeb, 34, said the killing of children and the innocent was most unpardonable and the ceasefire should take place immediately.

“As brothers and sisters in the human family, this is our sacred responsibility, let’s together say, ‘enough is enough’,” he said. — Bernama
