The Jade Sisters will be performing at tonight’s Gaya Christmas closing ceremony at Lintasan Deasoka.

KOTA KINABALU: After three nights of gaiety and fiesta, the 2012 edition of the Gaya Christmas Celebration is set for the grand finale at Lintasan Deasoka tonight, Thursday, with another packed entertainment programme.

The draw-card for tonight’s programme would certainly be the performance by the Jade Sisters – four siblings who go by the names Joan, Amy, Didi and Erika – the initial of their first names spell out J-A-D-E.

Joan plays the ukulele and sings, while Amy plays the guitar, the ukulele bass and also sings. Didi is currently in her sophomore year at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, studying Music. Erika, the youngest of the siblings just completed her SPM at SMK Tamparuli.

But that’s not all. While waiting for the arrival of church heads and other VIPs, two groups, Jessel and Six Band would provide Christmas carols.

Kota Kinabalu City Hall, one of the co-organisers of Gaya Christmas, will be putting on show their choir which will render a 15-minute rendition of Christmas carols.

The life-sized Nativity Hut is a favourite spot among people looking to take memorable photos of themselves or with their family and friends.

A special song and dance presentation will be performed by the Klang Methodist group, said Rev Eric Ling, organising chairman from the Sabah Council of Churches.

Roger Wang and Angelina Perete complete the group of entertainers for the night, while the Anglican Church presents a creative Christmas dance.

Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir is the guest of honour together with heads of churches that form the Sabah Council of Churches.

The crowds over the last three nights have come in throngs due to the exceptional good weather and hawker stalls selling food and beverages, clothes, shoes, toys and goods of all sorts, have remained open until midnight.

The four-night event will end with a flourish with another round of a spectacular fireworks display, added Eric Ling, who was obviously delighted with the thousands who had come on the previous nights.

Apart from the stage performances, the Nativity Hut and Christmas Tree, complete with a “Snow Machine” has been the attraction with the crowds who do not fail to take snap shots of themselves in front of the Hut and Tree.

Meanwhile, two NGOs, Kinabalu Pink Ribbon and Kasih, the group that provides AIDs support services, as well as three Christian-run facilities – Rumah Agape Kundasang, Ranau Literacy Class and Tadika Ceria in Kampung Sonsogon Magandai, will receive their share of donations collected from the public plus RM10,000 contribution from Maxis Berhad.

Children below the age of 12 who come tonight would also receive goody bags with items sponsored by Sabah International Dairies, Simply Chocolate, C&F Enterprise and Tong Guan Food Industries.
