Die-hard fans skip sleep to lay their hands on iPhone 5

DIEHARD FANS: The long line of iPhone 5 fans being entertained before the Midnight Sale begins.

KUCHING: While others were mostly soundly asleep, a long line of die-hard Apple gadget fans stayed from the middle of the night Thursday till early yesterday morning just to be the first in the city to lay their hands on iPhone 5.

They queued up in front of the DiGi Store Express in The Spring Mall to take advantage of the Midnight Sale which started as soon as the clock struck 12am.

This was held in conjunction with the official nationwide launch of iPhone 5 yesterday.

The Spring Mall was one of six locations nationwide selected for the sale. The others were DiGi stores in SoHo Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, Pulau Tikus, Penang, De Gardens, Ipoh, Plaza Merdeka, Melaka, and Api Api, Kota Kinabalu.

Numbers were distributed to those waiting in line. In the midst of anticipation, a series of live performances were arranged to keep the customers entertained.

Also present at the event was DiGi Sarawak head of region Benny Wee. In a statement, Digi said the iPhone 5 launch was the most anticipated product launch in the country.

The iPhone 5 is described as the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, completely redesigned to feature a stunning new 4-inch Retina display; an Apple-designed A6 chip for blazing fast performance and better battery life.

The gadget is also offered by DiGi with prepaid plans at its retail partners Courts Mammoth and Sen Heng Electrical nationwide since yesterday.
