Artists Find Inspiration At Serasa Beach

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Serasa Beach, with the cool air breeze in the late afternoon, makes for an ideal place for relaxation for most Bruneians. This has inspired two well-known artists, Hj Padzil bin Hj Ahmad and Pg Mohd Roslan bin Pg Hj Bakar, to go on their usual art outings at the beach recently, Borneo Bulletin reported.

They arrived at Serasa Beach at 3.30pm and were very lucky as the Sun’s rays that afternoon were not So bright, making it convenient for them to engage in their sketching and painting.

They chose two different locations to work.

Hj Padzil, who worked from under the shady trees at the beach, focussed on abandoned boats on the sandy beach. He had to work quickly because the beautiful sunlight was about to fade due to the dark clouds that were slowly approaching.

He had his own reason for choosing the abandoned boats as the subject of his painting.

“The abandoned boats do not mean that they are damaged or forgotten. They have their own beauty and symbolise the fishermen’s tradition – that they have been used for a long time to support life. The children playing next to the boats certainly enliven the beach scenery, especially in the afternoon. This shows a relaxing moment on this beach,” said Hj Padzil who used watercolours to complete his painting.

Meanwhile, Pg Mohd Roslan settled down next to a restaurant to search for new ideas while enjoying his afternoon tea and chatting with friends.

“Previously; I used to do my art outing in the forests. But today, I selected this place as it is convenient and has a lot of facilities such as chairs and tables. I can also sketch and colour amidst the cool breeze from the sea. It’s really relaxing,” said Pg Mohd Roslan.

He focussed on some sailing boats and trees on the sandy beach, wing acrylic colours for his painting.

As Pg Mohd Roslan was busy painting, a group of teenagers approached him and observed closely how he reproduced the colourful scenery.

The artists’ outing at Serasa Beach ended at 6pm.

They completed their paintings but said they would not sell the artworks as they each held sentimental value.

Pg Mohd Roslan and Hj Padzil plan to do more art outings in the future.
