KOTA KINABALU: The Council of Former Elected Representatives Malaysia (Mubarak) plans to request for a one-off payment from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for its members.

Mubarak president Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman said the aid was fitting in the current situation to give recognition to the former elected representatives who had served in the government.

“Surely, if everybody receives aid including mothers, widows and ex-soldiers, why not us. We will make a request to the prime minister on the matter so that the contributions of our members are recognised, in the current situation,” he said in his speech during a dinner, here, on Friday night.

In the meantime, Abdul Aziz said Mubarak would continue to act as a non-government organisation and cooperate with other bodies to instil patriotism in the current generation in line with modernisation and national transformation.

Furthermore, Abdul Aziz said Mubarak would continue efforts to set up a Mubarak Cooperative Bank to boost the economy of its members.

On considering the former elected representatives as Barisan Nasional candidates in the 13th general election, he believed Najib would make an accurate list of winnable candidates and Mubarak had no intention of vying for any seats.

Meanwhile, Sabah Mubarak president Yusoff Manan said Mubarak would lead and become the catalyst to instil elements of unity and help the government in looking after the welfare of the people.

The ceremony, which was attended by 50 members of Mubarak in Sabah including its Information chief, who is also Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman, Datuk Abdul Rahman Sulaiman and Sabah veteran Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Gilong, also feted the appointment of Parti Bersatu Sabah head Datuk Jamilah Sulaiman as Senator. — Bernama
