Najib conveys condolences to families of US school shooting victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday extended his deepest condolences to the families of victims killed in the mass shooting on Friday at the Connecticut elementary school, United States.

“It’s a tragic incident and Malaysia stands by your side,” said the Prime Minister in his Twitter yesterday.

On Friday, Adam Lanza, 20, opened fire inside two classrooms at Sandy Hook Elementary School which killed 26 people, including 20 children.

Los Angeles Times reported that police sources said the gunman also shot and killed his mother at home before driving her Honda to the school, where he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the rampage.

Meanwhile, Najib in his letter to US President Barack Obama yesterday, said he was deeply shocked to learn about the tragedy resulting in the loss of many “young precious lives in the Connecticut shooting rampage”.

“On behalf of the people and the Government of Malaysia, I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families of the victims of this tragic event and to the people and government of the United States of America.

“We pray for their strength and courage during these difficult times. At this time of grief, please accept, Mr President, the assurances of my highest consideration,” he added. — Bernama
