16 teams vie for badminton supremacy

SIBU:  A total of 16 teams had participated in a badminton tournament organised by Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu branch and Sibu Dayak Recreational Club.

It was held at the badminton court in Sibu District Police headquarters in Abang Haji Openg Road here which concluded on Saturday.

“The competition for Dayak shuttlers was divided into two categories namely men’s double open and men’s veteran open,” informed SDNU Sibu branch chairman Entali Tutong.

“The tournament had attracted teams from Bintangor and Sarikei and we had also invited Chinese and Malay players to take part. The objective of the competition was to strengthen ties between the participants as well as to select players to represent SDNU Sibu in similar tournament to be held in the future,” he said.

The competition offered RM300, RM200 and RM100 cash as first, second and third prizes respectively.
