Kg Pandan ‘B’ holds 2nd RC boat race

KUALA BELAIT: With the success of their first ‘Radio-controlled Boat Race’ held last July, Kg Pandan ‘B’ Village Consultative Council (MPK) in collaboration with the Belait District Office and Belait RC Boat held their second race yesterday at Anduki Jubilee Recreational Park, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The event was officially launched by the Peighulu of Mukim Pekan Belait Awg Hj Pungut bin Hj Ali, while at the end of the race prizes were handed over by YB Awg Hj Mohd Shaflee bin Ahmad, a Belait member of the Legislative Council and also the village head of Kampung Lumut 1.

A total of 45 RC Boat enthusiasts from three districts, namely Belait, Tutong and Brunei-Muara Districts took part in the race.

The race was held in nine categories; Class A-Tunnel/Catamaran Hull & Open CC (for grass cutter and chainsaw only), Class B-Tunnel/Catamaran Hull & Below 43 CC (for grass cutter and chainsaw only), Class C-Tunnel/Catamaran Hull & Below 35 CC (for grass cutter and chainsaw only), Class D-V shape/ Mono Hull & Open CC (for grass cutter and chainsaw only), Class E-V shape/Mono Hull (C26 import engine only), Class F-Tunnel/Catamaran Hull (G26 import engine only), Class C-Open CC & Open Hull (C26 import engine only), Champion of Champions category and also the Champion of Recreational Park category which are open for grass cutter, chainsaw as well as import engine.

In an interview with the chairman of the event, Awg Hj Abdul Malik bin Hj Abu Bakar, the Village Head of Kampung Pandan B, he said the objectives of conducting the race were to strengthen bonds among RC Boat enthusiasts from the three districts, to encourage the youths to be involved in healthy activities and to distance themselves from negativity, to promote sportsmanship among the youths and to introduce the Anduki Jubilee Recreational Park and the RC Boat race in attracting tourists into the district.

Apart from that, the village head also added that spots were also given to local Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to operate their stalls selling food and beverages, as well as various other products such as children’s toys and second-hand items. The business owners comprised of Belait residents and also those from outside the district.
