SIBU: Students from SMK St Elizabeth have used books to create their Christmas tree for the ‘Christmas Tree Decoration Contest 2012’ being held at Sibu Town Square Phase One.

According to one of the students, 16-year-old Cindy Erica Sylvastine, they chose books to create their Christmas tree because books were relevant since this year’s event was open only to secondary schools.

“Besides that, the books are the best form of Christmas gift for all,” she said when met when the trees were being judged recently.

Cindy added the team used 150 text books on different subjects to create their Christmas tree.

“It took three days to complete the tree through hard work and joint effort of 10 students and guidance by three teachers,” she explained.

Cindy said the theme of their tree is ‘Education is Hope’.

The competition attracted 14 teams and the results will be announced on New Year Eve during the countdown celebration as in previous years.

In the meantime their lights are brightening up the Christmas mood here.
