KOTA KINABALU: The Attorney-General has returned the investigation papers on the Norikoh Saliwa murder case to the police for updating before any prosecution is undertaken.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said although investigation into the case had been completed, there were some important details that needed to be included in the investigation papers.

“We had a meeting with the Attorney-General, Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, and he returned the investigation papers to us for updating.

“At the moment, we are unable to determine when the suspect will be brought to court for trial, but just like everyone else, we are also hoping that this case can be completed soon and we are doing our best to speed up the process,” he said, after the police monthly gathering at the state police headquarters in Kepayan here yesterday.

Hamza added that the Pakistani man, who is said to be the main suspect in the murder case, is still being detained under Section 39 (b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating conditions of his social permit.

The Pakistani was first arrested by police on Nov 26 in connection with the death of Norikoh Saliwa, 16, whose body was found with head injuries by the side of the road leading to Kampung Ranau.

The death of Norikoh, from Kampung Bombong 1, Kota Marudu has sparked huge interest as well as speculations from the public, bloggers and politicians. Several social network sites and blogs on the Internet have claimed that the victim was gang-raped by five Pakistani men before killing and dumping her body by the roadside.

Hamza had said that the victim’s 32-year-old sister had lodged a police report against a couple of bloggers for spreading false rumours on the death of her sister.

The case is still being investigated, while waiting for the pathologist’s report, to determine the actual cause of death under Section 304 of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
