KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is planning to provide new medical equipment for hospitals in Gaza as most equipment there aged more than 10 years and can no longer function properly, Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) advisor Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir said.

Muhkriz said the hospitals in conflict-stricken Gaza did not even have equipment such as CT (computerised tomography) scanner and x-ray machine.

“That are the things that the hospitals need now and we will try to get it for them,” he told reporters after receiving humanitarian donation from Perak Contractors Association and Gunung Keledang Welfare Club totalling RM7,034 at his office here yesterday.

The donation was presented by Parit member of Parliament Mohd Nizar Zakaria who joined the humanitarian aid flotilla to Gaza onboard MV Rachel Corrie in May 2010.

Mukhriz, who is Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, said a total of RM2.4 million donation had been raised within two weeks and had also been distributed to the Palestinian people in Gaza by the PGPF team during their one-day aid delivery mission to Gaza on Dec 11. — Bernama
