MSNS chief to step down after contract expires

Francis Nyurang Ding

KUCHING: Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) supremo Francis Nyurang Ding denies the speculation of him having a rift with his deputy, Fredrick Tan who had apparently resigned from his post.

The abrupt resignation of the affable Tan had rocked MSNS as he has been groomed all this while to take over the mantle of MSNS once the incumbent retires in May 2013.

The Sarawak-born heir apparent is reported to be heading back to Penang State Sports Council where he was head before joining MSNS.

“I have no problems or whatsoever with my former deputy. We have good working relationship while we were working together at MSNS,” revealed Francis to The Borneo Post.

However, he refuses to comment whether Tan left his job for a more lucrative pay in Penang.

According to Francis, whatever reason there is, he believed Tan left for personal reasons.

“Tan’s decision should be respected and nobody told him to leave either,” enthused Francis.

Francis also disclosed that he will not be extending his contract next year, should he be offered to do so.

He added that it is time for him to move on and give the mantle to someone new.

In another development, Francis is full of praise for the recent success and achievement of the state’s paralympiad contingent at the 16th Paralympics Games held in Kuantan, Pahang.

“They have done the state proud. They won it for the unprecedented 10-times. On behalf of MSNS, I would like to congratulate them for their success,” he said.

He continued that the recent success of the Sarawak contingent is a true testimony of Sarawak’s spirit of sportsmanship. It is a result of the hard work of everyone involved.

“All Sarawakians should pay attention to their success. The paralympiads have shown that Sarawak is a major player in sports, a powerhouse,” he said.

At the end of the interview, Francis took the opportunity to wish all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

He is optimistic that next year will be another productive year for sports in Sarawak.
