Furniture shop assistant charged with obstructing police

KUALA LUMPUR: A furniture shop assistant pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate Court here yesterday on two counts of obstructing two policemen from carrying out their duties and causing eye injuries to both of them, four days ago.

Maikir was alleged to have committed the offence in the Jalan Mega Mendung area near here at 4pm on Sunday.

He was charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum of two years imprisonment or fine or both if found guilty.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Wong Chai Sia offered bail of RM5,000 with one surety however counsel Muhammad Syazwan Mohd Salleh of the Legal Aid Bureau appealed for a lower bail as Maikir was only earning RM600 a month.

Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir allowed Maikir bail of RM4,500 in one surety and fixed Jan 17 for mention and appointment of counsel. — Bernama
