KUCHING: R Nachimuthu shot an outstanding 67 (34, 33) on the opening day of the ongoing PGM Maybank Tour Players Championship held at Impian Saujana Golf and Country Club in Kajang, Selangor.
The golf ace is taking a two-shot lead into the second round of the RM300,000 event and is trailed by Akmal Tarmizee and Hafiy Afiq Suhaili who both shot a 69.
Akmal registered a 34 and 35 whereas Hafiy had a much more adventurous time carding a 32 and 37.
Seven others players tied for fourth on two-under-par after they carded 70 and the list included current Order of Merit leader Nicholas Fung of Sabah whose round was very steady just as his season has been, shooting nines of 35 and 35.
Joining him with a two-under were S Sivachandhran and Airil Rizman while Danny Chia had a great come back after an opening nine of four-over-par-40. He finished his round with a score of one under 71 after having carded a back nine of 31 to be just four shots off the lead going into the second round.
Chia however is joined by nine others who shot the same number.
