RM1,500 fine for offering RM10 bribe

KUCHING: A lorry driver who offered RM10 bribe to a Road Transport Department enforcement officer ended up being fined RM1,500 and jailed for a day.

Lee Cho Heng was charged with trying to bribe the officer who caught him at KM21 Kuching-Serian road for not covering the loads he was carrying at 11.55am on July 3.

He pleaded guilty to an alternative charge under Section 214 of the Penal Code.

He was originally charged under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 but the charge was dropped as requested by the prosecution officer, Law Chin How.

Lee settled the fine.

Judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid presided.
