Body scanners at Perth Intenational Airport *new!

MELBOURNE: Malaysians and overseas victors to Perth will be subjected to body scanning that has been introduced at the Perth Airport’s international terminal as part of the Australian Government regulations to enhance airport security in the country.

The body scanner will be used to screen passengers at the international screening point, along with the walk-through metal detectors, the Australian Associated Press reports.

People will be randomly selected to be screened by either the new body scanner or the walk-through metal detectors.

The Australian government says the L-3 ProVision millimeter-wave body scanner, which is being implemented in all major Australian airports at a cost of A$28 million (RM95 million), is the most advanced scanner.

It can detect metallic and non-metallic items under clothing but is not as invasive as other types of scanners used elsewhere in the world.

The images will show passengers as stick figures but will not store any images. — Bernama
