Water levels in Terengganu rivers mostly above danger levels

KUALA TERENGGANU: The water levels in Terengganu’s main rivers had mostly risen above the danger levels by 11am today, following heavy rain since last night.

A National Security Council spokesman when contacted said the affected rivers were Sungai Setiu, Sungai Besut, Sungai Dungun, Sungai Nerus and Sungai Telemong, Hulu Terengganu.

The water level in Sungai Setiu at Kampung Langkap was recorded at 21.51 metres, 0.1 metre above the danger level and still rising.

At Kampung La, the water level in Sungai Besut was at 20.3 metres, which was above the danger level (19.2 metres) from 15.9 metres at the same time (11am) yesterday.

The water level in Sungai Dungun at Pasir Raja, rose from 34.4 metres at 11am yesterday to 37.5 metres this morning, above the danger level (30.5 metres).

At Kampung Lakap, the water level in Sungai Setiu was at 22.56 metres, 1.06 metre above the danger level (21.5 metres).

At Kuala Ping, the water level in Sungai Telemong, Hulu Terengganu rose to 20.41 metres compared to the danger level of 20 metres while at Kampung Besut, Setiu, it was at 18.34 metres, above the alert level (17.4 metres).

The spokesman said generally, river water levels in Terengganu were above normal while the rain continued, sometimes heavy. — Bernama
