BEAUFORT: Quick action by Fire and Rescue Department personnel save a 50-year-old woman from an attempt to take her own life by jumping into Sungai Padas yesterday morning.
The woman from Kampung Ulu Kimanis, who was believed to be facing personal problems, was earlier about 10am seen crying by the river.
Concerned members of the public called the police when they realised that the woman was inconsolable.
Although she had jumped into the river when the personnel arrived at the scene, they noticed her flailing arm, prompting them to jump in to pull her to safety, said Fire and Rescue Department chief in Beaufort, Joseph Ganang
The woman was later taken to Beaufort Hospital.
