KUDAT: Malaysians should learn from the chaos, conflict and disharmony in many troubled countries due to extremism and religious fanaticism so as to maintain unity and harmony in this country, Kudat member of parliament Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said yesterday.
He said Malaysians should take pride in the fact that despite living in a multi-racial and multi-religious country, they were able to practise moderation and maintain harmony.
“Our success in promoting moderation has earned us the respect of the global community.
“We promote conflict resolution and give priority to consultation to avert quarrels based on religion and ethnicity,” he said at a Christmas celebration of Chinese Christians at the Pei Tsin Hall, here.
Abdul Rahim, who is federal deputy transport minister, praised the Christian community in Sabah for helping the government to promote moderation among the followers which, he said, should serve as an example for all communities. — Bernama
