KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Information Communication and Culture yesterday distributed incentives from the national creative industry fund for television programmes amounting to RM4.5 million allocated by the government to 70 local production companies.

Its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Siaraf said the incentives aimed to assist the companies to improve the quality of the television programmes produced besides increasing the latest production equipment.

The funds were first distributed to 23 production houses on Sept 18 for the first group valued at RM1 million and the subsequent group received the fund today until next year, he said.

He said the investment through the creative industry was perceived to be able to generate good returns because this year alone, the industry had contributed RM400 million to the national economy.

“The fund represents a project by the government to continue to develop the creative industry and by the year 2020, the industry is targeted to generate RM3 billion to the national income,” he said here. — Bernama
