Crocs ready for Premier League challenge

KUCHING: Sarawak are all set and ready to face Perlis as their Malaysian Premier League (MPL) campaign curtain raiser on Jan 7 next year.

The Crocs’ assistant coach David Usop revealed that although the team is playing away, they are eager to test their mantle against the Northern Lions.

In an exclusive interview with The Borneo Post, David however added Sarawak must play with caution as any team in the MPL is a formidable opponent when they play a home match.

“This Perlis team is not the same eleven last season. They have a new squad but experienced coach Yunus Alif (T-Team former head coach) is guiding them for next season,” he said.

Disagreeing on suggestions that Perlis might play a similar style to Super League outfit T-Team, David opined that the new Perlis are still untested as the highly-rated Yunus had just taken over the head coach seat recently.

“Perlis might not play similarly to T-Team as Yunus has a different set of players playing for him now. They might play differently but nevertheless we are prepared to face them and we will do our very best to win when we play our first match,” he said.

For the record, Yunus had a good record against Sarawak last season with T-Team, winning both the home and away league matches.

Ronny Harun is the only Sarawak player currently on the crock list. He might not feature in the friendly match against Harimau Muda A tomorrow.

“We are still monitoring Ronny’s situation. We were told that his injury is not that serious but as a matter of precaution, we have decided to rest him before we face Perlis,” commented David.

The friendly match is part of the Crocs preparation for the MPL, which will be played at Stadium Negeri at 8.15pm.

Tickets can be obtained from all LEA Sports Centre outlets at only RM5. Sarawak will play their first home MPL match against Kuala Lumpur on Jan 11.
