RM51,000 at stake for winners in 1Malaysia new year run on Monday

PUTRAJAYA: The 1Malaysia New Year Run to be held at the Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur on Monday in conjunction with arrival of 2013, will offer RM51,000 as prize money.

Information Department Director-General Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman said six categories would be contested, namely Men’s Open (18-40), Women’s Open (18-35), Men Veteran (40 and above), Women Veteran (35 and above), Men’s Junior and Women’s Junior (13-17).

“The winner of each category will receive RM3,000, runner-up RM2,000 and third placed winner takes home RM1,000. Lucky draws will also be held,” he told Bernama.

Ibrahim said apart from promoting a healthy lifestyle, the aim of the run was also to enhance unity and integration among the races through sports.

Organised by the Information, Communication and Culture Ministry together with the Federal Territory Amateur Athletic Association (FTAAA), the run is open to all members of the public.

No entrance fee will be charged for the run that will be flagged off by Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, but participants will still receive goodie bags and t-shirts.

Ibrahim said entry forms are available at the FTAAA office at Wisma OCM, Jalan Hang Jebat, Kuala Lumpur, Information Department at Kompleks KPKK Putrajaya or Wisma Sime Darby, Kuala Lumpur, Jabatan Hal Ehwal Khas (JASA) in Jalan Dato’ Onn Kuala Lumpur, as well as download from the www.penerangan.gov.my website.

“The entry forms need to be submitted to us as quickly as possible but registration can also be done on the morning of the run. Goodie bags will be distributed from Friday onwards,” he said. — Bernama
