Six months’ jail for theft of motorcycle

KUCHING: An unemployed man had landed himself behind bars for six months after he pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen motorcycle.

Magistrate Syafiza Abduk Razak Tready imposed the custodial sentence on Shamsudin Jasmin, 28, of Kampung Tabuan Cemerlang when he appeared in court for the mention of the case yesterday.

Shamsudin admitted possessing the stolen item when he was caught at the village (Tabuan Cemerlang) about 4pm on Dec 22.

The brief fact of case stated the owner of the motorcycle lodged a police report after he found out that his Modenas Kriss motorcycle parked at the compound of his house in Taman Mendu missing about 7.30pm a day earlier.

The court also ordered Shamsudin’s custodial sentence to take immediate effect. He was convicted under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

In the same court room, a security guard of a shopping mall here was sentenced to a month jail for stealing a Samsung Galaxy Note II from an electronic shop at the mall at 9.45pm on Nov 7.

Magistrate Syafiza imposed the sentence on Mohamad Rafiduanansi Ramli, 31, after he pleaded guilty to the theft.

He was arrested at the guard room of the shopping mall and the gadget was also found in his possession.

Rafiduanansi, who was convicted under Section 380 of the Penal Code, will have to serve the sentence with immediate effect.

Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted in both cases.
