Dismiss propaganda against nation — Rep

PITAS, Sabah: Kudat member of parliament Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri yesterday urged the people to dismiss the propaganda of various quarters discrediting the country’s achievements since Independence.

He said that without the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration, the country would not have enjoyed development and become an icon respected by other developing countries.

“The fact that our unemployment rate is at three per cent or full employment, and not less than five million foreigners have flocked to
Malaysia to make a living are clear proof of our country’s success.

“If our country is unstable, poor and not peaceful, Malaysians would have fled the country to find a better life elsewhere and foreigners would not come here,” he said.

Abdul Rahim, who is federal Deputy Transport Minister, spoke at the mass circumcision of 100 boys at the Pitas District Hospital, an event organised by the Kudat MP service centre, here.

He said Malaysia had attracted businessmen and local and foreign investors through its open, liberal and pragmatic economic policy.

Political stability which came about from the people’s choice of a responsible and trustworthy government had also allowed for policy changes which met current needs, a plus point for businessmen and investors, he added.

“Therefore, the public is asked to once again be wise in the next general election so that the current government can continue with its mandate, and the transformation planned under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is not interrupted,” he said.

Abdul Rahim also presented welfare aid to more than 100 people who had suffered deaths of kin, had chronic diseases and had been affected by disasters, among others. — Bernama
