Three fined RM500 each for gambling

SIBU: Three men, all in their 40s, were fined RM500 in default a month jail each by a magistrates’ court yesterday after they

pleaded guilty to a gambling charge.

Ling Ung Chian, Dawan Mulu and Goh Heng Siong were convicted under Section 7 (2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

They committed the offence at a premises in Theng Kung Suk Road about 3pm on Nov 12.

They paid the fine.

Separately, a 15-year-old girl was also charged under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 for suspected involvement in an illegal cyber gambling charge.

She had to pay a minimum RM10,000 for each computer at the centre upon conviction.

The police seized nine computers from the premises during the raid.

The girl was absent at yesterday court sitting so the case was adjourned to Jan 7 next year.

Meanwhile, two sisters who committed a similar offence under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 in Pedada Road were fined RM500 in default one month jail each.

Lau Siew Hua and Lau Siew Lee paid the fine.

They committed the offence at a premises in Pedada Road about 3pm on Nov 9.

The police seized nine computers during the raid.

Ngu, 25, who is believed to be the operator of the gambling centre, was charged under Section 4B(a) of the same act.

He however told the court that he was only a worker at the premises and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was ordered to appear in court again on Feb 4.
