PAKAR to contest 13th GE if application approved

KOTA KINABALU: The protem committee of Parti Kerjasama Rakyat Sabah (PAKAR) is hoping to hear from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) as to the status of its application, soon.

Its protem president Zainal Nasiruddin said although the Sabah High Court had ordered ROS to make its decision with regards to PAKAR’s application within 21 days from yesterday, they hoped that it would be done as soon as possible.

Speaking to The Borneo Post after getting Judge Ravinthran M Paramaguru’s judgement on their case yesterday, Zainal said  it was a relief for the protem committee as they had been waiting for almost four years to know the status of their application.

“We want to express our gratitude to High Court Judge Ravinthran and the judiciary system for disposing our case in a good and transparent manner. We also thank our lawyer Marcel Jude for fighting our case,” he said.

According to Zainal, many Sabahans are waiting for news about PAKAR’s registration as a political party in Sabah.

“PAKAR is a party that will represent Bumiputeras in Sabah notwithstanding if they are Muslim Bumiputeras or non-Muslim Bumiputeras.

“If ROS approves our proposal, we will contest in the coming 13th general election but we would like to stress here that we are independent — we are not aligned to either Barisan Nasional (BN) or Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

“We are here only for the Bumiputeras of Sabah and we will contest in all the Bumiputera majority constituencies including the 25 parliamentary areas,” Zainal said.

Meanwhile, Marcel pointed out that the judgement was a landmark decision as under the Federal Constitution, we have the freedom of speech and assembly.

He said ROS had, by not making a decision on PAKAR’s application, deprived ordinary Sabahans from forming a political association.
