BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Some 20 female customers took part in the second Do-It-Yourself (DIY) programme conducted by Setia Motors Sdn Bhd at their Kuala Belait branch in Pekan Belait Industrial area yesterday morning, Borneo Bulletin reported.

In his opening speech the Branch Operation Executive of KB Branch, Ak Abd Aziz bin Pg Hj Azahari stated that the main objective of the programme was to educate their female customers in identifying basic tools for changing tyres, checking the dipstick, checking coolant levels, checking the windscreen washer water, checking brake fluid level and power steering fluid level, among other important pointers.

He added that by “Doing-It-Yourself”, the customers can save a lot of time and money rather than depend on the workshop for basic maintenance needs.

The programme was facilitated by Mas Hairee bin Abd Latip, Senior Service Executive, Setia Motors Sdn Bhd. Apart from the basic vehicle maintenance briefing, the participants were also given a chance in a practical session to try and witness for themselves the methods, as well as the tools needed, in changing flat tyres, checking the engine oil level using a dipstick and others. Three vehicles were used during the practical session – Veloster, Eon and Sonata.

In an interview with the Sunday Bulletin, Nurul, 27, a private sector employee who has been driving the Hyundai i40 for about seven months said, “It is really a good programme as women do not usually know how to change tyres or check the engine oil, although not all of us are capable of changing tyres but it is still worth it to know how to.”

Also present to hand over certificates of participation was the Assistant Service Manager, Badaruddin Rafar.
