TUMPAT: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang should make good use of the opportunity given to him to explain over Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) on his ‘Amanat Haji Hadi’ (Haji Hadi’s Message) delivered in 1981 branding Umno members and supporters as infidels.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who described the message by Hadi as a ‘political edict’, said Abdul Hadi should explain the message as it had resulted in Muslims in the country to split.
“It has to be corrected,” he told reporters after visiting flood victims at the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengkalan Kubor 2 here yesterday.
He said the move by Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim in agreeing to allow Abdul Hadi to provide an explanation on his message through RTM was apt.
In another development, Ahmad Zahid, who is Defence Minister, said members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) were on standby during the monsoon season to assist flood victims in the East Coast states.
ATM also has its medical teams to be sent to locations in need of medical and health services, he added. — Bernama
