SPREADING SMILES: Bruce Hodges representing ING Insurance to present the mock cheque of RM100,000 to Zainal Ahmad from CLAPAM.

KUALA LUMPUR: ING Insurance Berhad (ING Insurance) together with the Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Malaysia (CLAPAM) hosted a speech therapy programme called the Senyum Camp at Zoo Negara.

The programme brought together 50 cleft children from around the country and a team of specialists with multidisciplinary expertise including speech pathologists from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The event was attended by close to 60 families, which are members of CLAPAM.

Seen as the largest speech camp of its kind to be organized in the Klang Valley, Senyum Camp engaged the cleft children in a host of speech-related activities aimed at improving their speech ability.

In conjunction with this year’s Spread the Smile 2012 celebration, ING Insurance pledged a fresh RM100,000 to CLAPAM to support the cleft community. The cheque was presented by Hodges to Zainal Ahmad, Chairperson of CLAPAM, during the Camp’s opening ceremony.

Through the Spread the Smile programme launched in 2009, ING Insurance had pledged more than RM350,000 to CLAPAM to help over one thousand cleft
children by way of sponsorship of corrective surgeries as well as special bottles and teats to aid feeding.
