SIBU: Another two new toastmasters club will be formed next year to meet the growing popularity of public speaking among the local populace.
The new clubs are Sibu Foochow Association Toastmasters Club and United Chinese Association Toastmasters Club.
Speaking at the inaugural installation of office-bearers for Sibu Rainbow Toastmasters Club at a leading hotel here on Sunday, the Area E3 governor Mohd Hisham said this would bring the total number of toastmasters clubs here to nine.
“I still remember back in 2010, there were only four toastmasters clubs in Sibu and over the years new ones have been formed in response to the growing need among members of the public wanting to master the art of public speaking.

“People realise the importance of public speaking as through it, they become more apt in their communication and interpersonal skills. Sibu has seven toastmasters clubs to date and another two will be formed next year,” he said.
Turning to the newly formed clubs, he urged them to roll out more activities while calling on members to bring the club to new heights.
In that way, he said they could attract people to join them.
Meanwhile, founder of the Sibu Rainbow Toastmasters Club, Dr Clement Chen revealed that the newly formed club comprised mainly of volunteers from cancer society and cancer survivors.
Dr Chen pointed out that the new club was sponsored by Swan City Toastmasters Club.
He added there were 23 members in the new club.
“There are many merits associated with joining toastmasters clubs as one can build up on one’s leadership and listening skills besides public speaking skills.”
He mentioned that by joining such clubs, people would be able to expand their circle of friends.
“Public speaking should be encouraged while joining toastmasters clubs offer members of the public a platform for them to hone their public speaking skills,” Dr Chen enthused.
The charter president of the newly formed club John Lau also spoke at the function.
Meanwhile, the seven toastmasters clubs here are Sibu Toastmasters Club, Swan City Toastmasters Club, Sibu Mandarin Club, Sarawak Pan-Chen Lau’s Association Toastmasters Club, Mingchiang Tuhion Huay Sibu Toastmasters Club, Kelab Pidato Toastmasters Sibu and Sibu Rainbow Toastmasters Club.
