UMT volunteer squad prepared to help flood victims

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) volunteer squad is ready to help flood victims in the state clean up their homes after the flood had receeded.

UMT deputy vice-chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs), Profesor Dr Yahaya Ibrahim said, the squad had helped residents of Kampung Padang Bual, Besut and the Tanjung Damai housing areas, near Gong Badak, here.

“The squad, comprising 47 members of several uniformed bodies at UMT, helped to clean 15 houses in Besut on Thursday while 40 members cleaned 20 affected houses in Tanjung Damai.

“This is part of the efforts of the students and staff of UMT to help society,” he told reporters after a function, here, yesterday.

With the existence of the squad, UMT would continue to help victims and was prepared to offer its services to face the second wave of the flood which started to affect Terengganu yesterday. — Bernama
