KOTA KINABALU: A suspected burglar was yesterday injured when he was knocked down by a car driven by the owner of a house which the suspect and two accomplices allegedly tried unsuccessfully to break into.

The incident happened in Taman Pelangi, Luyang, around 3.30pm when the owner returned home to find the suspect, in his 20s, and his accomplices running from his house and fleeing in a Proton Persona car.

The house owner gave chase in his Toyota Camry car and rammed it into the back of the suspects’ car.

The suspects then got out of their car and tried to attack the house owner with machetes.

Though fearing for his life, the house owner drove his car forward and knocked one of the suspects to the ground, and this prompted the two accomplices to flee on foot.

The injured suspect was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment where his condition was reported to be stable.

A police team later went to the scene to carry out an investigation.

Meanwhile, city police chief ACP Jauteh Dikun, who confirmed the incident, said police were still investigating.

He urged eyewitnesses to come forward to assist them in their investigation.
