Woman dies after being hit by motorcycle on New Year’s day

TRAGIC DEATH: A member of the public helps a policeman cover the body of the victim with a plastic sheet.

BAU: A 60-year-old woman died after a motorcycle hit her in the 9pm accident in Singai on the Jan 1.

The victim had been identified as Nibim Sakeng, who succumbed to severe head injuries shortly after the accident.

Medical personnel from Bau Hospital rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call from passer-by.

According to a witness, the male rider was believed to have also sustained serious injuries and had been sent to the hospital for treatment.

The hospital will perform a post-mortem on the deceased.

In an unrelated accident around midnight yesterday, a man from Tarat was considered lucky to have survived unscathed after his car crashed into a drain near SMK Siburan here.

The 21-year-old was on his way to town when he lost control of his Kancil after being hit by a Proton Wira from behind.

The driver of the Proton Wira, believed to have a patrol unit of Road Transport Department (JPJ) on his tail prior to the incident, immediately fled from the scene.

The victim was sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.

The police are investigating the cases.
