BSB Municipal Department to organise Riadah BSB’ every Sunday

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: In an effort to enliven the atmosi5here of the city, Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB), the Ministry of Home Affairs through the BSB Municipal Department will be holding a pilot project to make the city centre as a location for recreational activities every Sunday morning, Borneo Bulletin reported.

This is in line with the mission to turn BSB into a vibrant city, and to create an image that BSB is a friendly and liveable city, explained Shahminan bin Hj Tengah.

The pilot project, called Riadah BSB, will be held this Sunday, where a lot of activities have been planned including briskwalking, cycling, recreational activities for children such as freesby, boomerang and kick-about football, a bouncer game, amongst others.

This Sunday the activities will be held from 6am to 11am, and depending on the public’s response, it will be held every Sunday.

Shahminan said the Municipal Department welcomed involvement and suggestions for activities to be held from the private sector as well as associations, clubs and non-governmental organisations. The Department can be contacted at 2232432 extension 187.

It all depends on the public’s response to its inaugural event this Sunday morning.

Shahminan bin Hj Tengah, the Acting Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Department was speaking to the media at a press conference yesterday, alongside, Hj Mansor bin Hj Mohd Yassin, also the Acting Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Department. Other officers from the BSB Municipal Department were also present during the conference.

In the press conference, Shahminan said that in order to give added opportunities to the public, the BSB Municipal Department will also provide two areas where the public can sell food, drinks and other goods The two areas allocated for these hawkers will be along Jalan Elizabeth II, in front of the Language & Literature Bureau Library and in front of the Secretariat building, from 6am onwards.

According to Shahminan, those interested in selling food and drinks do not have to pay for rental as it is free but it will be on a first come first serve basis. The public are welcome to participate in any of the activities, bringing along their family and friends.

The public are also advised to take safety measures during the activities and follow the regulations and directions given by the police during the event.
