LOKKAWI: The seven-foot long crocodile caught in a drain at a housing estate in the Kepayan Ridge on Wednesday
will be fitted with a satellite device and released in the Kinabatangan river sometime next week.

According to Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD) senior veterinarian, Dr Sen Nathan yesterday, the crocodile is presently being kept at the Lok Kawi Wildlife Park.

He also sought to clarify a report by the Borneo Post yesterday that the reptile was actually captured by a team from the Wildlife Rescue Unit (WRU), assisted by the Fire and Rescue Services Department.

“We received a call at 9 am and when my team arrived, we saw that the reptile was trapped in the culvert. We then asked the Fire and Rescue Services Department to spray at the reptile so that it would move out. My boys then used a noose to capture it and we now have it at the park,” he said.

He added that the crocodile was the first one caught/rescued in a city area.
