Lintang Park resident laments frequent blackouts in area

KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) should look seriously into the frequent blackouts at Lintang Park off Jalan Batu Lintang here.

A concerned resident, who wished to be identified as Lawrence, Thursday claimed that he experienced not less than 15 blackouts last year.

“One of the serious power cuts we experienced was last November where we only got back the supply after 13 hours!” said Lawrence, who has been staying at Taman Wingli in Lintang Park for 30 years.

The 50-year-old said he had alerted SEB on the matter numerous times but all his attempts were to no avail.

“Calling the power supply company itself is really frustrating. Every time they would say they would look into the problem or they would send someone. But nothing happens. We, the affected residents, feel very frustrated indeed.”

Lawrence said Taman Bunga Teratai (formerly Kelly Garden) was another residential area sharing the same fate as Taman Wingli.

He wondered why the two residential areas situated right in the city centre could not get stable power supply.

Lawrence believed that the tall and big trees along Jalan Bukitan off Jalan Ong Tiang Swee were the main cause of the frequent power cut in the area.

He explained that the numerous times they experienced blackouts was when falling branches hit the power lines.

“As the paying consumers, SEB owes us an explanation.”
